New grid connection rules, mandatory smart meters, controllable EV chargers: a lot has changed around electricity at home in Germany over the last two years. Here is an overview, and what we take care of for you.
New devices over 4.2 kW must be registered with the grid operator. During grid congestion it may throttle them to 4.2 kW, but never switch them off completely. In return, your grid fees go down.
A smart metering system is required from 6,000 kWh annual consumption, for solar systems over 7 kW and for controllable devices under §14a. Everyone else gets a digital meter by 2032 at the latest.
New solar systems without a smart meter and control box may only feed in 60 % of their output. There is no payment when electricity prices are negative. The more you use yourself, the less you lose.
The technical connection rules have been revised, with new requirements for meter locations, such as a main switch. When an EV charger, heat pump or solar system is added, an old meter cabinet often has to be replaced.
The 65 % requirement for new heating systems has been dropped. From 2029 the share of renewable fuels rises step by step. With your own solar and cheap electricity, a heat pump often remains the most economical choice.
Every supplier now has to offer a dynamic tariff. With a smart meter it pays to run your car, battery and heat pump when electricity is cheap.

Yes. We set up the control system locally in your home. Lighting, heating and security keep running. Only remote access via the app needs the internet.
Where possible, the assistant runs on a server in your home. Your data only leaves the house if you explicitly want it to.
We are manufacturer-independent and work with open standards such as KNX, Matter, Modbus and MQTT, with Gira X1, Gira HomeServer or Home Assistant as the central controller. So you are never tied to one vendor.
